Growing Together NPQ Spotlight - Saida Ali

What drew you to work in the education profession?

I've always been passionate about making a positive impact on young people and empowering them through education. Witnessing the transformative power of education in my own life and seeing the potential it holds for others inspired me to pursue a career as an English teacher.  My personal experience with education was a positive one and I have been incredibly grateful to the teachers/staff that contributed to it, therefore I wanted to enhance other young people’s education as well as hopefully leave them with a passion for English and opportunities to pursue their desires for the future.

Why did you want to complete an NPQ?

I wanted to enhance my leadership skills and deepen my understanding of educational management as well as deepen my knowledge in classroom practices in order to advise and equip other teachers. Completing an NPQ seemed like the perfect avenue to develop this further. Additionally, I saw it as a valuable opportunity to network with other educational professionals and gain insights into best practices in leadership within the education sector. I found the NPQLT fulfilled those purposes and I found it very enjoyable!

How has your NPQ impacted your work in school?

My NPQ has significantly enhanced my effectiveness as a leader within the school environment. Currently has a 2iC and KS4 lead in English, it has equipped me with a broader skill set, including planning, effective communication, and team management. These skills have enabled me to lead teams more efficiently, implement educational strategies, and foster a positive learning environment for both students and staff.

What are you hoping to do next with what you have learned from the course?

I aim to leverage the knowledge and skills acquired from the NPQ to take on greater leadership responsibilities within the educational world. Whether it's assuming a higher leadership position within my current institution or exploring opportunities across the globe, I'm committed to utilizing my new found knowledge to drive positive change and contribute meaningfully to the field of education.

What is your biggest piece of advice for someone considering applying to the course?

My biggest piece of advice would be to approach the NPQ with a growth mindset and a willingness to embrace the knowledge given. It's essential to be proactive in seeking opportunities for learning and development throughout the course and putting the new skills acquired into action as there’s plenty of opportunities for it.

What are the main reasons someone should consider completing an Aldridge Education/Teach First NPQ?

Completing an Aldridge Education/Teach First NPQ offers numerous benefits, including access to high-quality training and support from experienced educational professionals. The program has equipped me as an aspiring leader with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in leadership roles within the education sector.  Additionally, the strong emphasis on practical application and real-world experience ensures that we can immediately apply what we learn in our day-to-day work, making it a highly valuable investment in professional development. I learnt so much and thoroughly appreciated it.  I would definitely recommend this to anyone considering an NPQ.
